Data is extracted from your backup software and saved into a Sync source file. The Sync source file is then read into the synchronization process using a definition file to translate the information to TapeTrack formatting.

Sync definition files, have a file suffix of .ttidef and can be edited using a plain text editor such as Notepad or vi.

The purpose of a definition file is to provide the translations to TapeTrack on how to extract the required information from the source file, including location and format of the data.

TapeTrack Sync can be executed from a command line prompt manually, but as running the Sync is done on a regular schedule, it is best practice to place the commands in a batch file and once correct execution has been verified the batch file can be initiated using Windows Scheduler or similar programs such as Cron.

Installing Sync

Linux Framework RPM's have the Sync files built into them. If you have the Framework Server already installed, the Sync files will be installed in the bin directory. Check for /bin/TMSS10Sync to confirm.

Windows will need a separate executable to be installed.

Sync Introduction

This guide has been written to assist those responsible for tape management with the process of integrating their backup software or tape management system with the TapeTrack Media Management Software.

For those who have their own TapeTrack Framework Server, these instructions relate to connecting to your own system, while, for those who use TapeTrack via a relationship with their data protection provider, these instructions relate to connecting into your vendor's system.
