An operator is a term applied to a person who physically handles Volumes in the process of data backup.

Operators are usually responsible for:

• inserting or removing Volumes from robotic tape libraries
• Sending to or receiving Volumes from offsite storage
• Placing in or retrieving Volumes from storage
• Stock control of scratch Volumes
• Barcoding new Volumes
